- Prerequisites: It is assumed that all students taking this course will have successfully completed MCS 121 or the equivalent. Any questions concerning your readiness should be resolved immediately.
- Text: Calculus by James Stewart, Second Edition.
- Course Format: You will have four class meetings each week. Class will start with discussion of assigned homework problems, followed by new material to be covered according to the outline. Exams will take place during a regular class periods.
- Attendance: Attendance will count for 5% of the grade, with a one unexcused absence unaccounted.
- Daily Homework: The assigned problems indicated on the course outline have been chosen to illustrate the more important concepts and techniques that you are expected to master. These problems are for your benefit and thus will be collected at the beginning of each class. You are allowed to turn but one homework late. No other homework will be received past its due date. Homework will count for and easy 15% of your grade. Homework will ideally be returned to the students within two class periods of turning it in.
- Special Assignments: In addition to the daily homework assignments, there will be two formal group assignments. These group assignments will be required of all students in groups of at least two, but no greater than three. These special assignments will count for 10% of the course grade.
- Exams: There will be 2 one-hour exams given during the term, and a two-hour final exam at the end of the term. These hour exams will cover only new the material discussed in class and in the homework. The final will be commutative, emphasizing the most recently material introduced.
Other things to keep in mind:
- Calculators are not permitted during any exam.
- Students may be required to show their University ID cards upon request.
- Makeups will not be given for individuals who missed exams.
- Course Grades: Your course average will be computed according to:
- 20% Exam 1
- 20% Exam 2
- 30% Final Exam
- 15% Homework
- 10% Special Assignments
- 05% Attendance
Course grades will be determined roughly as follows:
- A 90-100
- B 80-89
- D 60-69
- C 70-79
- F 0-59
